Welcome to
the Swedish School of Tampa Bay We now accept applications for Fall Semester 2008 The Swedish School of Tampa Bay is committed to helping children of Swedish heritage maintain and develop the Swedish language as well as their understanding of the Swedish culture through the efforts of dedicated volunteers. The school also strives to promote Swedish culture to the local community, and to provide a social outlet for Swedes living in the Tampa Bay area. Swedish education as a supplement, is a form of education designed to offer Swedish to Swedish children and youth living abroad where no Swedish schools exist. The students receive their main education at a domestic or international school, but supplement this with studies in the Swedish language and about the Swedish society and culture. Studies are conducted during the students’ free time and run about two hours a week. Children who speak or understand Swedish and who has started Kindergarten are welcome to participate in the regular school class. Pre-school children and younger can join a play group, where parents take part and turns in teaching the children through play, song and other fun activities. We also invite students signed up with Sofia Distance Learning grades 6-9 to the school, for socialization with other Sofia students and help with homework. Parents and other Swedes are welcome for "fika" and friendly conversation during class hours. Available for reading are Swedish weekly magazines and newspapers, and once a month you may borrow books and movies at our library. Do you live too far from Tampa or want to study more from the privacy of your home? Ask us about Webbland! Read our article in the Swedish Council of America's August 2008 News |
