The School
The Swedish School of Tampa Bay had its Grand Opening the fall of 2006 and teachers aid in the maintenance of the Swedish language and cultural heritage of Swedish children, as well as children of Swedish ancestry. The lessons are built up by a variety of themes. Each student conduct research, compile information and present it to the class either individually or as a group. During each different theme, the students learn about Swedish geography, history, and culture using the Swedish language by reading, writing, and communicating in a fun and natural way. Webbland is available to aid in difficulties of getting to class and for students interested in distance learning. For more information please contact Malin at info@svenskaskolanitampabay.org. Supplementary education in Swedish is a form of education designed to offer Swedish to Swedish children and youth living abroad where no Swedish schools exist. The students receive their main education at a domestic or international school, but supplement this with studies in the Swedish language and about the Swedish society and culture. Studies are conducted during the students’ free time and run two hours a week. In order to retain the knowledge of the language, we strongly encourage the students to regularly share what they learn with a Swedish speaking relative or friend. |
